Marvin Thomas Connelly

Marvin Thomas Connelly, 93, of Lawrence, formerly of McLouth, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence. He was born January 8, 1919 at Winchester, the son of Raymond S. and Ina Mae Courtney Connelly. He was a 1937 graduate of Winchester High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1944. He was a 64 year member of the Davis-Gibson American Legion Post # 387 in Winchester and was a member of the First Baptist Church of McLouth since 1956. He earned a Bachelor of Construction Engineering degree in May 1956 from the Finley Engineering College in Kansas City, MO. and worked as a self employed carpenter and finish carpenter for many years working through the carpenter's union. He was married to Rhea Kathryn Jeffers on May 11, 1940 at Winchester, she preceded him in death on January 29, 2012. He is survived by one son, Gary (Becky) Connelly, Lawrence, one daughter, Marion (Gary) Tommer, Kansas City, KS., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Francis "Frank" Connelly and a sister, Hazel Fry.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday at the McLouth First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the McLouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of McLouth in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. From the Family of Hazel Fry, Marvin's sister, you have our deepest condolences. He was a great man and we will keep your family in our prayers.

Deep sympathy to you and family. My parents were friends with yours. My mother passed 18 years ago and my Dad is still living and he is 92 years old. Your dad build the cabinets in my Dads farm house and they are still looking good. God Bless, Marcia Smatla-Reiter
