Coach Pattin was one of my baseball heroes when he was with the Royals, and I was thrilled to have to opportunity to call him "Coach" while I was at KU. Even 30 plus years later, he always stopped to say hi and chat whenever I saw him around town.
To the family, I am sorry for your loss. I am so happy that he found his way to Lawrence, KS.

I really enjoyed talking to Marty with his friends at coffee. Never thought I would be serving such a talented and famous pitcher. He was a great example to my children in little league. He will always be my favorite Royals pitcher. I will be at his funeral in my heart. A pleasure to have met him. I never believed in my dreams that I could ever see him and admire him in person. May God bless his family and may God hold him in his arms closely.

My first roomie in the big leagues in KC. My friend, my teammate, and my battery mate. Will always remember the good times on and off the field. You brightened my day every time we were together. So many happy memories and fun stories to recall. We love you Ducky! Rest in Peace my friend. Prayers always for you and all your lovely family.

So sorry to hear about Marty's passing. I have great memories of playing for Marty at KU and spending time fishing with he and his family at Lake Clinton. He was a bulldog while competing and a gentle man in life. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by many.

Marty was an example and inspiration to all that knew him and knew of him. . What a blessing for him that he could return home to Charleston one more time. May God bless and comfort his family and many friends at this sad time.

Marty, was the pitcher that I patented my pitching style after. I signed with Oakland and Marty and I became friends. His style on the mound, the ferocious style of not backing down, was what I chose as my style. Not the quality as the duck I will miss him so much. Marty someday I will join you again. You were an inspiration to me .

Marty was a fierce competitor and a good friend. In the early 1960s, the Mattoon HS baseball team could never advance from the regional tournament because we had to face Marty every year. We were overjoyed when we joined forces with Marty on the Mattoon American Legion team. Marty will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I can't be there to say good-by but I will always have the memories. Met Marty when I was a freshman at EIU and he worked at Walt's. Years later, I was able reconnect with Marty at a Kansas City Royals game. My heart goes out to his family; they will always be remembered in our prayers.
