Marion Linton Obituary

Marion "Chris" Louise Christman Linton, 96, passed away January 11, 2021, with family by her side. Chris was born December 14, 1924 near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Edna and John Christman. She attended schools in that area, then went to college at Muskingum (Ohio). With multiple "Marions" in her dorm, she took on the lasting nickname, Chris, and met her future husband, Bruce Linton there, and they were inseparable from then on. After Bruce returned from Europe and WWII, they were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1946. Chris graduated with a teaching degree and taught school for several years before starting a family with Bruce and becoming full-time Mom. Survivors include her husband of almost 75 years, Bruce; two children: Wendy (Jeffrey) and Marc (Donna), four grandchildren John, Jessica (Eric), Andrew (Emily) and Dean (Ashley); and two great grandchildren, Madelyn and Ella.

In her youth and college, Chris was an excellent student, and was involved in theater, debate, Band, Orchestra, school newspaper, leadership and church groups. In their home in Lawrence since 1955, she enjoyed the garden, bridge clubs, Plymouth Women (Plymouth Congregational Church member since 1956), and KU events, particularly theater, jazz, and eventually KU Retirees. As the children grew up, she loved the camping vacations, white-water float trips, and visiting extended family. After Bruce's retirement, Chris and Bruce enjoyed several cruise ship tours, visited England multiple times, and for 19 years they spent a winter month or two at South Padre Island, Texas.

Her radiant smile, compassion and unconditional love will be deeply missed. As grandma, mom, and wife, she was the epitome of support; the "cheer leader" for her family; her strongest role.

Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Plymouth Congregational Church or Endacott Society of the KU Alumni Association and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

So sorry to see soul mates separated, even though we believe it is only temporary. Chris hosted many of us college grad students in their home now and then. We had a great family meal and learned how a loving couple should act. Donna and I still make a casserole we call the "Chris Linton Special." Our love and sympathy to the Linton family.
