Marilyn Keen Obituary

A private family service is being planned for Marilyn "Annette" Keen, 63, Lawrence, KS. Marilyn passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at LMH Health.

Marilyn was born on January 5, 1959, in Houston, TX, the daughter of Edwin Lafayette and Virginia Ann (Parker) Keen. As a teen, she moved to Lawrence, KS, with her family.

Marilyn was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter Safeya. They shared a passion for the rescue of homeless dogs and cats, sometimes driving hundreds of miles to do so. Marilyn was a fervent and loyal supporter of friends and family-a true force of nature. She also mastered her baking skills and loved sharing her baked goods, especially her famous lemon bars and fudge, with loved ones.

Marilyn attended Brown Mackie College in Overland Park, KS, learning court reporting transcription and word processing. Her work career included being a customer service representative at the Lawrence Sallie Mae location for many years. She later worked in the call center at General Dynamics in Lawrence.

Survivors include her three brothers, Harold E. Keen, Vernon Hills, IL; James L. Keen, Cave Creek, AZ; Donald K. Keen, Lawrence; and one daughter, Safeya LeeAnn Keen, Lawrence. Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Ann Keen, on May 7, 2014.

Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
