Maria Holmgreen Obituary
Maria Luisa (Mary Lou) Kahn Holmgreen, 71, died Jun. 17, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 22, 1941 in Monterrey, Mexico, the daughter of Maria Luisa Rangel Frias of Monterrey and Henri Andres Kahn of Laredo. She graduated from Martin High School in Laredo and, in 1962, from Southern Methodist University. She received a master's degree from Trinity University and a law degree from St. Mary's University, in 1982. She then entered private practice in San Antonio and specialized in business law until her retirement last year. She served as president of the San Antonio Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, as municipal judge in Olmos Park and Fair Oaks and was a board member of Gemini Ink. She was a member of the World Affairs Council, SA 100, Las Amigas, the Alamo Heights Rotary Club, Alamo Heights-Terrell Hills Garden Club and Zeta Tau Alpha Alumnae. She is survived by her husband, Dr. W. Corbett Holmgreen, MD; three children, Alan Corbett Holmgreen and wife Destine Denman Holmgreen of Laredo; Celia Louise Holmgreen Perez and husband Anthony Arispe Perez of Albany, NY; and Andrew Wrather Melrose Holmgreen and wife Dr. Kimberly Holmgreen of San Antonio; grandchildren Austin, Travis, Alexandra, Charlotte and Nils Holmgreen; a brother, Henri A. Kahn of Monterrey, Mexico; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 E. Summit at McCullough. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements by:

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Holmgreen family. I have so many memories of when we were growing up. I was happy to have attended a reunion and Mary lou came for a few hours. I was a classmate at Martin High and some of my fondest memories were the gatherings after football or basketball games at her parents' lovely home in Laredo, and the warm hospitality and friendship that Mary Lou always had for all.
