Margaret Warren Obituary

Margaret Warren

Margaret Warren, age 87 of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away August 22, 2014 at the Bonner Springs Nursing Home. She passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. Fellowship with the family will follow the service at Lake of the Forest.

Margaret Warren was born Margaret McMillan on September 9, 1926 in Armadale, Scotland. Margaret, at the age of 4, migrated to Dearborn, Michigan with her parents, Meg and Duncan Ferguson. She graduated from Fordson High School in 1944. In the same year she met Charles Warren in California while on vacation. After corresponding for three years, they married on November 27, 1947 in Berlin, Germany.

They honeymooned in Paris, Belgium, and Scotland where Margaret's cousins and grandparents lived. She worked for the State Department of Berlin during the Berlin Airlift. She was the first American female to be married in Germany after World War II. Upon the return to the United States, she and Charley lived in Dearborn and Detroit, Michigan where they started their family. Then in 1955 they moved to Lake of the Forest, where they raised their three daughters. This would become their lifelong community and extended family, whose hearts were warmed by her dedication and participation in all activities. Those closest to her were gifted with hand-crocheted afghan's for holidays as well as births. The traditions and treats of her Scottish heritage were shared at potlucks and dinners, leaving friends delighted and wanting more. Besides being a fabulous homemaker, she had a thirst for travel that drove her to visit 48 of the 50 states. In 1954 Margaret worked at Bethany Hospital as a Pharmacy Technician for several years. She then gave 25 years of service to the Safeway cereal mill, in Bonner Springs, working as a secretary. Margaret is survived by Charles Richard Warren her husband of 67 years, daughters Shayne Warren, Shelley Ann Warren and Heather Meg Warren, Son-in-Law Don Scarpa, Granddaughter Emily Shayne Warren, and Great Grandson Luca.
