Map was one of the most beautiful ladies (inside and out) that I ever knew, and know many who would agree. She and my father, Charles grew up together for a time on Sunset 4, and she was a dear friend to my mother, Becky in later years. I remember many an occasion where Map was "part of the gang" - Mom and Dad, our grandparents (who also knew (and were neighbors as I only recently learned) her parents, Col and Mrs Pentland as well, Zil and her son John Towle, Tommy Otto, Margie Bettendorf, the Orrs, Setlins and Van Dynes... such wonderful memories. I still remember her white Mustang when she was living in the house on Sunset 2. Map was also Godmother to my sister Kelly and me, and I will always remember fondly Community Church on Miami Beach, which we still have a few wonderful old photos of with many of those mentioned here. I´m sorry for your loss and the world´s loss, but I know we will all meet again and with this group, heaven will be a nonstop celebration!

No one in our 34 years in Lawrence was so fully gracious, kind, compassionate, loving, and beloved than our long-time neighbor Mappie. She welcomed us into her family (her maternal grandmother was a Turnbull); she especially welcomed our son Jay, who had disabilities; she was as close to family as we have had with people not our family by blood or marriage; she helped raise our daughters, as we did likewise for Katie S., and she created a home that was constantly colorful and welcoming. -- Rud and Ann Turnbull

So very sad to see this in the Herald. Map was one of a kind. She was a cherished friend of my family's back in the '60s. She was kind, loving, generous, exuberant, an amazing hostess, a beautiful person in all ways!

Katie as you know your mother was The Best of what we all should be. I know she´ll make heaven a more beautiful place. I haven´t seen her for several years but I have thought of her a lot, her kindness and always had a beautiful smile. You and your family are in our prayers. I wish I had words to ease your pain. Just know you have some long lost friends that love you and here for you
