Margaret was a High School friend that I admired and thought a lot of.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

I was very sorry to read about Mrs. Akins. She was my algebra teacher at Central Junior High in the early 1960s. She was a good teacher and gave me confidence in my math abilities. Everything written about her in her obituary is true. She did run a tight ship, not to exercise authority for its own sake, but to create a comfortable environment for learning. I enjoyed her and her class very much. My very best to her family. I can tell from her obituary that you are proud of her and justifiably so.

The 12 Rytting children remember Mrs. Akins fondly and appreciated her determination to teach them Geometry successfully. They were reminiscing about SJHS a few weeks ago, and said that Mrs. Akins and Mr. Nye were the only teachers who taught all of them. The Akins were also our neighbors and were patient with our family also. Love to her family and comfort to them.

Mr. Akins, Steve, and Kevin, your mom made a huge difference in my life and ended up becoming my friend. I could not have been more blessed to have her in my life and will never forget her or everything she taught me. With much sympathy, Julie Greenberg

Really sad to hear about her passing. I loved her Geometry class at South. She really took her time with me. Great teacher!

Mrs. Akins was my Algebra teacher at South Junior High in the early 70s. She was all of the things written in the obituary. She was an excellent teacher. Having been taught mostly by nuns in elementary school, I loved seeing her with her red lipstick and fashionable clothing. She did "run a tight ship" but it also included tolerance, patience and humor. She was the perfect math teacher! I imagine she was good at most everything she did and I am sure she is greatly missed. I am sorry for her family's loss.

"Mrs. Akins" was one of three of my all time favorite teachers. She set high expectations and was generous in her praise of a job well done. She was always fair but never mistake her kindness for weakness! I could never address her as anything other than "Mrs. Akins," even many years later when I would visit the SJHS or see her in public. Mrs. Akins left an indelible impression upon me that I am forever grateful.
