Mae Fern Smith

Mae Fern Smith, age 101, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away March 22, 2014 at the Medicalodges Eudora. Services will be Wednesday, March 26, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, with the Visitation starting at 10am and the Funeral at 11am. Burial will follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Medicalodges Eudora or the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church both in care of the funeral home.

Mae Fern was born on February 9, 1913 at her family's home in rural Leavenworth County, the third of seven children of David E. and Minnie (Brecheisen) Klamm. Mae was a wonderful cook and quilter and enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing her produce. Mae was a longtime member of the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church, an over 65 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, over 30 year member of the Bonner Springs Jolly Jill's EHU (a family and community education club) and was active with the Bonner Springs Senior Citizens for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings; Velma Feiring, Everett Klamm, Stella Bockover and Wayne Klamm as well as by her husband of 75 years; Walter "Smitty" C. Smith, Jr. Survivors include her three children Nancy Thomas of Silver Lake, KS., Elaine Brauer and husband Richard of Linwood, KS., and Dwight Smith and wife Sharon of Bonner Springs; one sister Pearle Gibson of Tucson, AZ.; one brother David D. Klamm and wife Dorothy of Rural Bonner Springs; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
