Lynn Shultz Obituary

Lynn Arlene Wilson Shultz, 71, of Lawrence, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Sunrise Senior Living in Lenexa, KS after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Lynn was born April 17, 1950, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Loyd and Colleen (Hogan) Wilson. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1968 and was a proud member of the cheerleading squad, student council, and Homecoming Queen. Lynn considered herself quite the tomboy growing up, though, and loved riding horses.

She was nearly a lifetime resident of Lawrence, Kansas where she lived with her parents and sisters above the 2nd street location of Johnny's Tavern. She was proud that Johnny, from Johnny's Tavern, was her Uncle John and that the Wilson family owned the Minneapolis-Moline tractor dealership in the same building. She lived in Tonganoxie for a few years growing up, but soon moved back to Lawrence where she attended the University of Kansas. She graduated in 1973 with a degree in Interior Design.

She went on to work at Maupintour Inc., a travel agency, for eight years after graduation. Lynn spent the majority of her career, however, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in the billing department where she worked for 35 years. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for many years in Lawrence.

Lynn married James Donald Shultz, Jr. November 21, 1969, in Lawrence; they later divorced. Their daughter, Callie Shultz Castro (Paul), Lenexa, survives as well as Lynn's three beloved and adored grandchildren, Mia, Sophia, and Louis. Also surviving is her sister, Penny Tuckel. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Wilson Davis.

She had quite the artistic talent and loved taking pictures! She could always be found with a camera in hand at family functions or chasing her grandkids around snapping a shot. Lynn loved a good game of softball and had the markings on her legs to prove it. She enjoyed visiting the mountains of Colorado, watching home renovation shows, and the company of more than one Siamese cat over the years. Lynn loved a good car ride with the windows down and visor on, often cruising around Clinton Lake. She was a regular blood donor and spent countless hours serving Douglas County 4-H and the Lawrence High School Marching Band Booster Club during Callie's schoolyears. Lynn was a devoted mother and all-out supporter for all Callie's endeavors, even traveling across the country for music competitions. Later in life, she carried that devotion to her grandchildren, often seen cheering them on in their activities.

Friends may call from 6-8pm on Monday, March 7 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary at 120 West 13th Street, Lawrence. The funeral will be at 11am Tuesday, March 8, also at Warren-McElwain.

Donations in Lynn's honor may be made to the Douglas County 4-H Foundation or to KU Endowment (to be used in support of the KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center) and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

So sorry to hear this. Love the picture. I worked at LMH in a different department but saw her often. This is the way I remember her smile. Love and prayers for you and your family.
