Louis Stone Obituary

Louis D. "Lou" Stone, 83, Topeka, passed away on June 2, 2012 from complications of Dementia.

Lou was born July 18, 1928 in Monett, MO, where he lived until moving to Lawrence in 1942 and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947.

He was employed by Southwestern Bell for over 33 years, retiring in 1983 as Network Service Supervisor-Special Services in Topeka.

He was a former member of the Arab Shrine, Masonic Lodge, and Lowman United Methodist Church.

He spent 21 winters in Florida where he enjoyed golfing, biking, square dancing and going on cruises.

Lou married Bessie Pickens and to this union three children were born. Bessie was later killed in an automobile accident. He married Ardith Hess Johnson on March 24, 1964. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Pam (Dick) Varenhorst, Marion, KS, Jenny (Pete) Woods, Overland Park, KS; son, Steven Louis Stone, Kansas City, KS; step-son, Dennis Johnson, Topeka; grandchildren, April Hines, Abbie Woods, Caitlin Varenhorst, Daniel Schuckman, Garrett Varenhorst; step-grandchildren, Josie Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson; and great-great-grandchildren, Madison Hines, Taylor Rose Hines, Sophie Schuckman, Hudson Schuckman .

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum. Louis will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association, or Grace Hospice.

I enjoyed working with Lou for many years at SWBT. Had lost touch, but was glad to read that he had a wonderful life in his retirement years. I am very sorry for your loss.
