Loris Brubeck Obituary

Memorial service for Loris Glenn Brubeck, Jr. "Junior" 78, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Eudora Baptist Church. He passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Private family inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.

Junior was born April 22, 1938 in Humansville, MO, the son of Loris Glenn and Alice "Marie" (Myers) Brubeck.

After graduating from high school, he began his automotive career as a mechanic's assistant at a Pontiac dealership when he met Jim Clark. After asking to be hired for four months, Clark offered him a position as a body shop assistant. Over the next 30 years, Brubeck worked as a technician, service manager, sales manager and general manager. In 1992, he purchased the dealership.

He was active in various community organizations. He promoted many local organizations and was a strong proponent to "buy local", whether it was his dealership or others. He earned the Chrysler's 5-star recognition for many continuous years. He was the Kansas Automobile Dealers Association's Regional Vice President, Treasurer, Vice Chairman and Chairman. He also served on the National Dodge Dealer Council for multiple years as well as the Kansas City Zone Dealer Council. He was elected by his peers for the Time Quality Dealer. During his ownership, he had many loyal customers as well as employees which made for many long-lasting friendships. He loved spending time with his family and had great interest in his grandchildren's activities. He was the tower of strength and support for the entire family. He was an avid fisherman and made 31 fishing trips to Canada, which he looked forward to going every year.

He married Phyllis LuAnn Blough July 12, 1957 in Linwood, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Tammy (Wiley) Burnett, Julie Ahrens, both of Lawrence; one son, Bryan Brubeck, Shawnee, KS; six grandchildren, Justin Ahrens, Andrea Franklin, Ashley Burnett, Lacey Burnett, Andrew Brubeck, Nicholas Brubeck and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Goodman.

The family will greet friends at 10 – 11 a.m. one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Junior was a gentleman and always willing to help educate and assist anyone who asked. His passing is a loss to the community, as well as his family.
