Lois Carlson Obituary

Marie Carlson gently passed into God's loving arms March 31, 2012 in Plano, Texas. Celebration of Life services will be held at Trinity by the Sea Episcopal Church in Port Aransas, Texas April 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm. She was born March 24, 1928 in Michigan. After graduating from High School in Mineral Wells, TX she attended Tulane University and graduated from Nursing school in Dallas, TX. In 1949 she married Dr. Richard Hermes, moved to Lawrence, KS and brought four children into the world. She is survived by Penny Amyx- Topeka, KS, Peter Hermes- Bonita Springs, FL, Patricia Freeman-Costa Mesa, CA & Pamela Terrones (Kenneth)- Plano, TX. They gave her 6 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. As a Registered Nurse she worked in a variety of settings, generally as Director of Nursing for facilities in Lawrence & Topeka, KS and in Texas she worked in Mineral Wells, Plainview, Lubbock & Dallas Metro area. She also worked as the Director of an Adult Day Center and for the State of Texas as a Facility Investigator. After retirement she moved to Pt. Aransas, TX where she met the love of her later life, Dr. Gerry Carlson. They traveled around the U. S. and several areas of the world. Retirement life was busy between their homes in Pt. Aransas, Coon Rapids, MN & a lake home in Onomia, MN. They were members of a canoeing club and Marie enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening, reading & volunteering in schools, libraries and her church. She was very strong in her devotion to God, becoming a deaconess in the Episcopal Church. Marie passed on her strength of faith to others with her sense of humor and generosity of spirit. She was known for her sparkling blue eyes, sense of humor and continued to support family and friends in each of their aspirations throughout her life. She will be missed by all who knew her and we know she is at peace with the Lord. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters or charity of your choice.
