Letha Louk Obituary
Graveside services for Letha I. Dillon Louk, 100, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Friday at Valley Brook Cemetery, south of Overbrook, with Visiting Nurses Chaplain Paul Reed officiating. Mrs. Louk died Monday, Apr. 13, 2015, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehab Center.
She was born Dec. 14, 1914, in rural Douglas County, Kan., the daughter of Thomas Lloyd and Rosa Turner Dillon. She graduated from Appanoose High School in 1934. She later attended Emporia State Teacher's College and earned a teaching certificate. She taught for five years in one-room schools - at Rock Creek in Douglas County where she once attended as a student, and in Franklin County. She later worked at J.C. Penney in Ottawa. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Autumn Club, Commerce Coffee Club, and a former member of PEO in Abilene, Kan. She volunteered in the craft store at the senior center, and enjoyed knitting baby caps for the hospital and playing cards.
Letha married Noland Clifford Louk on Apr. 3, 1937, in Nevada, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2006. Survivors include a daughter Sherri Meredith, Lawrence; and two sisters, Emma Mae Crawford, Baldwin City, and Charlotte Ikenberry, Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David D. Louk, and two brothers, L.E. 'Bud' Dillon and E.E. 'Babe' Dillon.
Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses/Hospice, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044. Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.

So sorry to hear of Lisa's passing, but glad I had a chance to know her - a little - at Drury Place. Ate at her table a couple of months, and she always had on "matching" beads with her blouses - proof to me that she knew all that was going on, and it COULD be done at 100 and better! Glad I had the opportunity to celebrate that milestone with her, and will remember her fondly.

I have known Letha since we have both been in Dreary Place. I was lucky to be called her friend. I enjoyed talking with her and Sherri during our many visits.
She had quite a sharp mind. She loved cards, and was usually the first at the card table, we could always count on Letha. She often said win or lose, at least I can always sleep at night.

Sherri, your mom was such a sweet lady., I always enjoyed visiting with her. I was amazed at how sharp she was at her 100th birthday party. I am so glad I was able to come that day. Your folks made a great couple, and now they are back together again., Cherish the beautiful memories., I will try to make it down tomorrow or Friday, but I am babysitting and don't have a sitter. You are in our prayers! HUGS!!!

I remember Letha so fondly from growing up in Central United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful lady and I'm so happy to have known her. My thoughts are with your family.

I send my condolence to you Emma Mae especially since I don"t seem to get in to see you. For some reason I don't remember Letha but do remember the rest of you. What a lot of memories this family must have for a life of 100 years. God bless all of you.
