Arnold Mitchell Bourne, 79, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1946 to the late Sam and Ruby Bourne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dean and Eddie Bourne, and his sister, Janet Tolley.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bassett for 52 years. Arnold was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir. He worked as a paint contractor for 40 years for Atkins Construction.
Surviving are Arnold’s wife of 58 years, Shelia H. Bourne; brothers‑in‑law J.C. Tolley (Irene), Johnnie (Nancy), Roger (Jane), and Zack (Teresa) Hodges; sisters‑in‑law Myra Bourne, Diane (Ronnie) Altice, and Mary Jane (G.L.) Johnson, Tony Tolley (Susan), and Gina Stansell (Gary) many nephews, nieces, great‑nephews, great‑nieces, and special friends, Joseph Nelson and Kevin Hopkins.
He loved farming, camping, the mountains, and his church. A special thank‑you to our friends, family, and Mountain Valley Hospice for all the help during Arnold’s illness.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 11,2025 at First Baptist Church of Bassett. A visitation will be held from 3:30 pm to 5, prior to the funeral service at First Baptist. The burial will be at Jerusalem United Methodist Church, 277 Jerusalem Rd. Elk Creek, Virginia the following day, Friday, December 12, 2025 at 1 pm.
