Larry Whitson Obituary
Funeral service for Larry Noel Whitson, Sr., 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He died November 24, 2012 at his home.
Larry was born on March 12, 1946 in Mountain Grove, Missouri the son of Velmer and Eula (Riley) Whitson.
He served in the US Navy during Viet Nam. Larry retired in 2005 as a supervisor for the City of Lawrence Street Department. He was a past Commander of the VFW Post #852 and All State Commander VFW from 1984-1985.
He married Darla Montgomery on July 13, 1967 in Morro Bay, California. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include daughter, Amy Weinaug and husband, Robert, Lawrence; son, Larry Whitson, Jr., Lawrence; Sister, Roma Wisdom, Eudora; brother, Loyd Whitson, Lawrence; 2 grandchildren, Alexis Guinn and Baylee Whitson.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the VFW Post #852 Scholarship Fund or Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assoc and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

My fondest memory of Larry is how kind he was to our dalmation, Toby. He was working for the city & when he would make his daily trip through the airport every day, he would buy a package of "Twinkies." Toby was fenced in & he would come by every morning & share one of his "Twinkies" with Toby. I found out later, he didn't even like "twinkies", but my dog, Toby sure did. What a kind guy.
This crazy world was a better place with you in it!

Larry was a good man, and always had a smile and huge hug ready for me every time I saw him. I have very fond memories of him, and the whole family from my younger days, spending multiple weekends with Amy.
