Had great fun at the Heck farms. Hockey on a pond, bobsled ride on a "professional sled" the Heck´s built and parties in The Barn. Great memories of a super guy. Rock Chalk Larry Hatfield

Francis and family,
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. We will miss Larry and his smile at the Jayhawk games in Fort Myers. We have so many years of fond memories. You are in our prayers.

My condolences to the Heck Family. I grew up and went to school with Larry Heck's family as well as Roger Heck's family. We went to a one room school house on the outskirts of Lawrence known as the Kaw River Bottoms. The Heck's over looked our school's needs and were active in helping us get ready for the "Play Day" that the rural area schools had each spring by helping us train for broad jump and high jumping. Helen Heck was very active in the Jayhawk 4-H Club and mentored me in my sewing project. Great family who gave much to our rural community.

One of my best friends at K.U. was Larry’s younger brother Steve. We roomed together for 3 years, so I got to spend a lot of time around Steve’s wonderful family. Larry was in Med School at the time, but we saw him frequently. Larry was a great big brother . . . and not only because Steve had 4-5 inches and 40 pounds on him.
One of my fondest memories of the two of them was a weekend outing at Lake Dabanawa. As we prepared barbecue, somehow the conversation went to drinking and smoking. Steve and Larry’s dad Walter said, “I know my boys drink, but at least they don’t smoke!” My other room-mate, Tom Wobker was there, and we both knew that Steve had a pretty healthy tobacco habit (not sure about Larry). After Walt’s comment, Steve was apparently afraid that Tom and I might spill the beans, so he blurted out “Look at my dog chasing ducks in the water!” Tom and I almost busted a gut laughing, but Walt didn’t catch on!

Since the first day I met Larry I found him to be a great guy and friend. Football together through Jr high and LHS. Lots of bobsled rides over county roads and fields plus hockey games on their pond. The Heck Barn was also a super meeting place. Everyone that knew Larry will miss him. The best to Frances, family and good friends. Larry Hatfield
