Joe was exemplary working with KU students while I was an advisor to our fraternity at KU. He was always willing to provide counsel and assistance. He was patient and insightful and made things better.

Joe was one of the finest men we knew. He was such an inspiration. He loved life, God, his family, and his extended community of friends. He was joyful presence - quiet, strong, humble, intelligent, grateful - a pleasure to be around. He will be missed greatly.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joanie, Mark, Marcia, Mary, Molly, and Meg and their families.

Joe was my cousin by marriage to his wonderful wife Joanie. We saw each other a couple of times a year out and about in Lawrence or for those rare family gatherings that brought together the extended family. He was such a thoughtful and generous human being. He truly amazed me by his strong will to not let his illness interfere with his daily life and love of playing tennis. We can all take a chapter from this man's extraordinary life and live it. He certainly did. My love and prayers to Joanie and the Bauman family.
