Kurt Lucas Obituary
Kurt Alan Lucas, Valley Falls, age 49, died in a motorcycle accident in Perry, Kansas, on September 25th, 2014.
Kurt was born December 13, 1964 to Donald and Rita Lucas in Lawrence, Kansas. He graduated from Lawrence High School. He served in the armed forces and held the rank of sergeant in the Kansas Army National Guard, 714th Maintenance Company. He worked for FedEx for 15 years in Lawrence and most recently as a swing driver in Lenexa.
He was a gifted mechanic and brought new life into many cars, motorcycles, bikes, and even a boat. He loved to fish and did it as often as he was able. He was very active and participated in Ironman, bicycle, and running competitions. He enjoyed creating and building and built much of his home in Valley Falls. He travelled when he could and loved Hawaii and hoped to go back again.
He had an infectious sense of humor and fun. He worked hard but always gave so much love and support to his family and friends. He was very spiritual and had a deep connection with God. He loved children and was a great uncle and mentor. He was full of integrity even in difficult circumstances.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lucas; mother, Rita Lucas; and brother, Brian Lucas. He is survived by his brother Warren Lucas of Anchorage, Alaska; brother Scott Lucas of DeSoto, Kansas; and five nieces and two nephews.
Please join his family in a viewing Thursday, October 2nd, from 6-8pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 3rd beginning at 2pm, followed by graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Federation of the Blind at 200 East Wells Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21230, nfb.org, or may be sent in care of the mortuary.

My family and I are very said to hear the news of Kurt passing away. We send our prayers to the family. What a wonderful human being, we were neighbors and shared many times together. God bless you Kurt my friend you and Joe are now together in heaven hanging out like old times.

Sorry to hear about Kurt's passing. We sent to school together and the teachers would get us mixed up from time to time. Kurt and I were just talking the other day about how you have to really watch out for people when you ride. It is like you are invisible to people when you are on the bikes. I can't believe he is no longer with us. He was a GREAT friend and will be missed by so many. Rest in peace my buddy.

To all who mourn the loss of Kurt, my sincere condolences. I only knew Kurt for two short months, but in that time we talked or texted nearly every day. We had a tender but growing friendship. He taught me so much in that time and showed me what a man of strength, dignity, and honor is like. I will always hold him as a treasure in my heart.
