Kirt Duffy Obituary
Kirt Edward Duffy, 69, of Pittsburg, KS, died at 1:58am, Friday, October 24, 2014, at his home after a long illness.
Kirt was born January 29, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of William Paul and Jeanne Frances (Durfee) Duffy. Kirt has been a part of the Pittsburg community since the late 1960s. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force.
Kirt studied physics, psychology, and mathematics, and his true passions were music, photography, and the outdoors. He owned and operated a foreign car repair service along with his brother, Jeff, in Pittsburg, KS. Thereafter he owned a small photography business, but his true joy was teaching music to children of all ages, which he was able to do for many years before his illness removed this opportunity. He touched many lives and spoke often with pride of his many students.
Survivors include his companion, Carol Cook, of Pittsburg, KS; daughter, Megen Corin Duffy, of Lawrence, KS; parents Jeanne and William Duffy, of Pittsburg, KS; brother Jeff Duffy and wife Debbi of Sedona, AZ; sister Jan Hamblin and husband Carey of Mount Lemmon, AZ; and six nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00pm Saturday, November 1, 2014, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS, with Fr. Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Private committal will take place at a later date. Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00pm before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Performing Arts Center at Pittsburg State University. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762. E-mail condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, KS.

It is so sad to know that Mr. Duffy passed away some years ago. When I was a student at PSU, he accepted me to learn how to repair cars at his shop back in 1990s.
I learned a lot from him, not only repairing car.
He will remain in my heart for a rest of my life.

Duffy family, so saddened to hear of Kirt's passing. Kirt and I dated in his Senior year at W.B.Ray high school in Corpus Christi, Texas...he was such a fine young man then, full of life and ambition...we were best friends and had many deep conversations. I remembered he borrowed your "bicycle built for two" one time and off we went for a nice ride around your neighborhood; you, as a family were such kind people. I have always remembered all of you fondly, you all give so much love and that reflected in Kirt. God's peace,love and comfort be with all of you. Diane

So sorry to hear of Kirt's passing. He was an inspiration to all his students and to everyone who knew him. I was blessed to perform with Kirt and miss those times so much. He will be sorely missed. God Bless.

Kirt has been in my thoughts and prayers since last seeing him when we visited backstage at a Springfield Symphony Concert. I am so grateful to Carol for bringing him especially now that I know it was the last time we would visit. I've wondered so much about how he was dealing with the illness. He was a great guy.
