Kimberly Bashaw Obituary

Kimberly Anne Pratt Bashaw
1961-2015
Kimberly Anne Pratt Bashaw, 53, died peacefully surrounded by her family. The cause of death was complications from Huntington's Disease. Kim was born May 13, 1961 to Peter Evans Pratt (deceased) and Anne Winterbotham Pratt whom she idolized. Kim attended Pooh Corner, River Oaks Elementary, the Awty International School, and graduated from the Kinkaid School. Kim received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Southern Methodist University in 1984, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. Kim taught at the Awty International School and the Oaks at Briargrove prior to her "retirement".
Kim was married to the love of her life, James E. "Jeb" Bashaw and would have celebrated their 30th anniversary in October 2015. Kim was a member of the Houston Country Club, the Coronado Club, and a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Houston.
Kim is survived by her two beloved -- and she would say spectacular children -- Mason Virginia Bashaw and Travis Scott Bashaw, and Mason's wonderful fiancé Lane Clelland. Kim was a devoted wife, mom, sister, daughter, and granddaughter. The happiest times of her life were entertaining in her home or at "the Club". Her stated goal as she made loudly clear to her husband and children was to shriek "I'm trying to have a nice party!"
She loved cheering for her children -- sometimes to their dismay -- at Kinkaid and Strake Jesuit and enthusiastically following their continued success at Notre Dame and Texas Tech.
Kim is survived by her husband, children, mother, grandmother Alice Evans Pratt, her two brothers Pito Pratt (Cathy) and Jody Pratt, brother in law Bubba Bashaw, her wonderful "sister" Renee Cole, longtime aide and caregiver Manuela, and numerous aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. She was preceded in death by her dad, grandfather Fletcher Pratt, grandparents John and Wandy Winterbotham, and her beloved brother Scott. She also leaves behind Fatty Cat and Nika, both who brought a smile to her face.
Although Huntington's Disease is a cruel and horrific disease, Kim lived, suffered, and died with a quiet dignity that showed her resilience and grace. In her later stages of the disease, her famous response to hearing her children's voice in person or on the phone was "I Love You!"
Friends are invited to attend a visitation Tuesday, April 7, 2015 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the home of Anne Pratt, 5214 Pine Forest Road, and a Memorial Mass Wednesday April 8, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road. A reception will follow in the Parish Life Center immediately following Mass. Main Celebrant is Msgr. Frank H. Rossi.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made either to the University of Texas Health Science Center, Dept. of Neurology, 6410 Fannin, Suite 1014, Houston TX 77030 c/o Erin Furr Stimming MD, or the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018 or www.hdsa.org.

I will never forget how excited I would get each morning when my pre-school teacher would walk down Meadow Lake on her morning walks. I remember sitting in the dining room just waiting for her to pass by our house. "Mama, mama! Mrs. Bashaw is here! We have to open the door to say hello!" I literally did that every morning, and she always made a point to stop and talk to me... making me feel like I was the most important person. I will always cherish those memories I got to make with her over 25 years ago. Prayers and hugs to your entire family.
