Kerry Ray Obituary

Kerry Lenore (Chalmers) Ray born October 19, 1964 in Dearborn, MI., passed away September 24, 2018 at her home in Baldwin City, KS., surrounded by friends and family.

A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday, October 14th at Baldwin City's Lumberyard Arts Center from 2-4 pm.

Daughter of Margaret (Taylor) and Walter Chalmers, she was a graduate of Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, MI., and later went on to culinary school becoming a sous chef. She worked teaching open fireplace cooking with her mother at Greenfield Village in Michigan for many years; but was known for her wonderful cake decorating she shared through her work at Hy-Vee in Lawrence, KS.

Kerry was involved in many Baldwin City community theater productions and was heavily involved in her daughter's theater and son's sports, never missing a show or a game!

She married Mark Ray October 17, 2009, at Worden United Methodist Church and they spent the last nine years going on amazing adventures together. Kerry had an open heart and an open door taking in many young people who now know her as mom. She was an amazing friend to all and her kindness and love will live on in the hearts and lives of those that knew her.

Kerry fought and survived four years of pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Heather Chalmers, and uncle Samuel Taylor and a cousin Justin Taylor. She is survived by her husband Mark Ray, his parents Bill and Sharon Ray; daughter Skye Reid and fiancee, Christian Johanning; son Derick Jaroscak and fiancee Annie Landis; brother Kelvin Chalmers , nephews Kyle and Taylor Chalmers and next door neighbors, Jim and Martha Wright.

PEOPLE because in the end that's all that matters!

Contributions to be made in Kerry's name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses hospice or The Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation.
