Kenneth Rowland Obituary

Kenneth Alan Rowland

Kenneth Alan (Al) Rowland, Kansas City, Kansas passed away May 17, 2015 at home after a long battle with lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He was born to Kenneth Ray and Alice Jean (Miche) Rowland on December 29, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Turner High School in 1973. Soon after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Kittyhawk and the USS Ranger from 1973-1975. He continued in the Naval Reserves. While living in San Diego, California he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) Fletcher of East Roxbury, VT. They married in 1976 and welcomed a son, William Floyd in 1978. After returning to live in Kansas City, Kansas, they welcomed a second son, John Kenneth in 1979. Al worked at the General Motors Fairfax plant from 1978-2008 and, after retiring with 30 years of service, worked at Cabela's.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Dottie, of the home; his son William (Laura) of Broomfield, Colorado; his son John (Noel), Lawrence, Kansas; his mother, Jean (Overland Park, KS); his sister, Cindy Yulich (Mitch) Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren Dillon, Talia, Caleb, and Liam Rowland; and his Vermont family: sisters Jane (Ed) Vizvarie, Verne (Patrick) Poulin and Deb (Tom) O'Grady. In addition, he will be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews who adored him and friends he made throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenny and his brother-in-law John (survived by wife Irene).

Per his wishes there will be no funeral but rather his family and friends will join in a celebration of life at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, Leavenworth, KS on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 2 PM. Casual dress is required. Al requested donations be made to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum in Rhinebeck, N.Y. http://oldrhinebeck.org/ORA/donate/ or PO Box 229 Rhinebeck, New York 12572– a place he loved and wanted very much to support.

Thinking of Al last night. He was as kind, loving and caring of a man as I ever knew. You lived a wonderful life and set great examples for your boys. Thanks for sharing your lives.
