Keith Hammond Obituary

Keith Dennis Hammond of St. Charles Services for Keith Dennis Hammond, 36, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Born Feb. 3, 1973, in Chicago, he passed away suddenly August 15, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Keith was raised in Schaumburg and moved to St. Charles upon graduation from Schaumburg High School in 1991. He was employed by Lunt Mfg. of Schaumburg until 2002, when he moved back home so he could look after his parents' well-being after an accident his father had 10 years ago. His mom was always the apple of his eye! Keith's biggest joy in life was being with his large loving family, but his BIGGEST JOY and also who played an important role in his life was his two nieces, Krissy and Kylie, whom he would play with, argue with, and just being "Uncle Keith" - Keith was still a kid at heart! He treasured the time he could spend with them along with their dad, his brother. He also had a passion for animals, especially his cocker spaniel "Boom-Boom" (Shadow), who he would tease all the time with a laser red dot that brought a lot of laughs! His turtle "George" is about 30 years old; Keith found it on a street down in Eldorado, Ill., and he just couldn't leave it, so it became a part of his life. He also makes sure that the animals that frequent his parents' home were cared for and fed. He enjoyed cooking and did a lot of the cooking at home - clean up was his specialty - at home and also at anyone's house who was having a party. He enjoyed maintaining his parents' home, doing the landscaping, and became good at what he was doing. His gardening was his passion, which he was very proud of. He enjoyed the outdoors and going camping with his brother, his cousins and nieces. Keith was the son of Lenora G. and Dennis R.; beloved brother of Michael D.; fond and loving uncle of Krissy and Kylie; grandson of John and Evelyn Hammond of Crossville, Tenn., and the late William and the late Elizabeth Liner; and nephew of Laura (Mike) Hammond/Sloan, Beverly Collins, Christine (John) O'Connor, Bill Liner, Pat (Janet) Liner, Judy (Frank) Kelly, Charlotte Turnbull, the late Robert E. Liner and the late James Collins. He is also survived by many other cousins, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to Anderson Animal Shelter, AndersonAnimalShelter.org, would be appreciated. For information, 847-882-5580.

Keith and I shared many Childhood memories. I'll never forget it. My parents still reside on Emerson Dr, Schaumburg. I visit every Thanksgiving. Your old house hasen't changeg a bit, along with the entire neighborhood. Only the trees got bigger. I've lived in Florida since 1992, and lost track of most things that go on in Illinois. This is the first I've heard of Keiths passing. My mother notified me this passed Superbowl Sunday. I'm sorry to hear the news. I lost my older brother suddenly when I was 17, and can only feel the deepest simpathy and sorrow for your family. God Bless You All.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Keith was a great person. He and I shared a locker in Jr. High. I use to steal his lunch when I forgot mine and vice versa. Such a good guy, he will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Keith's passing. When we were in 6th grade, we would often watch "First Blood" in his VCR downstairs with other friends after school. I will always remember him as a very nice, soft spoken guy.

Hammond Family:

I may not have known Keith, but I want to wish you well at this time of loss.. As we all know, it is hard to just loose someone - now especially a child.

I became to know of his passing through others that I know that knew him. I am an '89 graduate from Schaumburg High School.

Best wishes to you and your entire family,

To my Sister Lynn and Brother-In-Law Dennis,
The loss of a loved one is always a difficult thing. The loss of a Son is something different altogether. Keith was an amazing nephew to me and we were so lucky to have him in our family. We are all very hurt at this time, but we are all here for each other. "We loved him but GOD loves him most" He will live forever in our hearts.

I would like to share this poem with you:

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I went to high school with Keith, He was always there with a joke or comment to make us laugh. Though we fell out of touch after graduation, he still remained in my fondest high school memories. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Denny and Lynn - So sorry to read about the death of Keith. I certainly remember the boys playing outside on Dartford Lane. My sympathy goes out to you as I cannot imagine losing a child, to lose a spouse is hard but a young person has to be very rough. I will keep you in my prayers.

What more can I add from what my husband has already mentioned? Keith will be terribly missed. Jessica, Nikki and Brianna have a memory of their Uncle Keith they can not possibly forget. Who goes camping and brings a microwave, you guessed it....Keith. Frozen pizzas and microwave popcorn at camp...they loved it! As for me, not just the years growing up together as cousins but the most recent memories will be held onto forever as well. His smile, the support, the respect and the fun times we shared will always have a place in my heart. Keith, I love you very much and will forever miss you!

I've known Keith for several years now. I'm sure he had his faults as all of us do, but I was never witness to any. He was always going out of his way to be helpful and supportive. Whether helping his parents or helping out at family gatherings, he was always contributing in some way, and was happy to do it. He treated everyone with respect, and he always seemed to be smiling too. Most times I saw him it was at a family gathering of some sort, so I consider that a testament to his love for his family. I know he'll be missed. I'm proud to have called him a friend, and will always treasure the good times we shared.
