Kay Gorden Obituary

Kay B. Gorden, 69, of Baldwin City, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 surrounded by loved ones at her home. She was born September 26, 1948 in Baldwin City, KS, the daughter of Arlon Keplinger and Beulah (Leuf) Keplinger.

She was a life-long resident of Baldwin City with deep family roots in the area. She worked at King Radio in Ottawa, KS as an assembler for 14 years. Being highly skilled in sewing, she also worked as a seamstress for Aneita's Alterations in Lawrence, KS for over 20 years.

Kay was united in marriage to Merle Gorden on June 26, 1965 in Baldwin City. They shared over 53 years of loving marriage. Merle survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Nicole Oelschlaeger and husband, Dennis, Tonganoxie, KS; two sons, Steve Gorden and wife, Shelley, Baldwin City, and Cody Gorden and wife, Melanie, Oregon; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lila Robinson and husband, Dennis.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Arlon "Bud" Keplinger.

Kay was a faithful patron of The Baldwin City Library and an avid reader, usually reading a book a week. Her hobbies were sewing, which included making clothes for her family, crafts, and baking. She enjoyed medical shows on television like Grey's Anatomy. And, she loved to travel. She and Merle went to Colorado every year for their anniversary; she loved the landscape of the mountain ranges. They even took a trip from coast to coast, getting their feet wet in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

A private family Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Visiting Nurses of Douglas County Hospice and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
