Kathleen Daniel Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Marie Daniel, nee Schmitt, of Lawrence, KS, died after a long illness on April 17, 2023.

She was born in McHenry, IL on September 18, 1943, and grew up on a farm in Wisconsin with her nine siblings. Her family moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1957 when she was a teenager where she attended Lawrence High School. After graduation, she had a long and varied secretarial career working at various times for the Lawrence school district, manufacturing and law firms. She retired at the age of 70 in 2013.

Kathy was an avid quilter, gardener and foodie. She loved to try new recipes. She made beautiful quilts for over 50 years for family and friends which were cherished by all. Kathy also had a wonderful sense of humor and would tell such vivid stories that she should have written a book. It would have been a best seller.

Kathy, beloved by family, is survived by six of her siblings: Leland Schmitt of Eagle, WI; Roger Schmitt of Baldwin, KS; Gwendolyn Schmitt of Portage, MI; Edward Schmitt of Kansas City, KS; Maureen Burriss, nee Schmitt, of Kansas City, KS; and Jane Schmitt of Laguna Niguel, CA; two children, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Edward Schmitt and Bernette Schmitt, nee Bourelle, of Kansas City, KS; her siblings Patricia Daniel, nee Schmitt, of Raytown, MO; Dennis Schmitt of Perry, KS; and Bernadette Harris, nee Schmitt, of Rye, CO.
