Katherine Schmidt Obituary

Katherine (Kathy) White Schmidt, a long-time resident of Lawrence, went to be with her Lord Jesus Monday, October 30th 2017 after a brief fight with cancer.

Born February 7, 1948 in Lawrence, Kathy was the daughter of Roger Louis and Eleanor June (Tripkos) White. Married at Lawrence Friends Church on August 23rd, 1969, she is lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, Richard W. Schmidt, Jr. and their children: Richard W. Schmidt III and his wife Wandamarie of Lawrence; Eric T. Schmidt and his wife Carrie of Nicholasville, KY; Steven M. Schmidt and his wife Stephanie of King George, VA; along with her eight grandchildren.

Kathy was a life-long believer in Christ and was excited for the day she could dance at the feet of Jesus. She was a member of Christ Community Church where she served faithfully for over 20 years. She was always encouraging others to seek Jesus for peace and comfort, even until her last days, when she spoke at length with each and every care giver she met. She used talents given to her by her Lord to play music for the church as a child, sewing and smocking christening gowns and spreading joy to all of those she knew.

Her memorial will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Christ Community Church, 1100 Kasold Dr., Lawrence, KS 66049. Burial will be at a later date in a private family gathering at Prairie Center Cemetery. Kathy donated her remains to the Kansas University Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Christ Community Church, Lawrence and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance ([email protected] 212.268.1002). The Warren-McElwain Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.

A friend shared this with us and we found such great comfort...And while we grieve our loss, we know that because of her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, today is her best day ever.
May the Lord bring comfort, strength and peace for each moment in the days to come.
