Julianne Hack Obituary

Julianne (Julie) S. Hack – July 21, 1929 – November 16, 2024

Julie Hack was born on July 21, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska.  She was the daughter of Helen Claire Payne and Carl Gustav Seashore.  She attended high school in State College, PA She attended Northwestern University and Penn State University.  She married Alan G. Hack, Jr on July 24, 1947.

Julie was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church since 1951, the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association, Chapter AZ of PEO since 1957 and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Julie firmly believed that it is important for all to contribute back to their community in whatever way they can.  She lived that advice herself.  She became very active in Cordley and Centennial PTA Boards.  She was an active member of the Central Junior High Advisory Council and, when Lawrence was undergoing turmoil in the early 1970s she chaired a committee of parents who spent time in the halls of Lawrence High School.

She took all these activities in the Lawrence Public Schools and turned that into three terms on the Lawrence School Board.  Julie was, as you would imagine, an active member of that Board and her service extended to participation in the Kansas Association of School Boards statewide level workshops.  She attended National School Board meetings several times.  While on these trips Big Al would seek out the best places to have their pre-dinner Manhattan.

In addition to her work with public education she served as an Audio-Reader Volunteer, Boys Club Founder (which later became the Boys and Girls Club), United Way Board of Directors, United way Fund Drive Chair, Presbyterian Manor Board, Government & Community Affairs Chair for The Chamber, and The Catholic Services Board.  All this time, she was also the bookkeeper for the family clothing store, The University Shop.

In 1996 she received the Substantial Citizen Award from the Kiwanis Club of Lawrence, and in 1999, she and Al were recognized as Citizens of the Years by the Chamber of Lawrence.

Julie loved the game of golf, Leland, MI and following the activities of her children and grandchildren.  The family is so grateful for her friends , her care giver, Shapree Jones,  and the wonderful people from Assisted Living at Pioneer Ridge and Ascend Hospice Care.

Julie is survived by her children: Al and Sue Hack, Lawrence;, KS Cary Danielson Pandzik, Lenexa, KS; Chris and Dana Hack, Greenville, SC; Michelle Hack, Lawrence, KS; grandchildren: Eric and Allison Danielson, Shawnee, KS; Brian and Meghan Hack, Austin, TX; Anne Hack and Jesse Miller, Parkville, MO; Julie Danielson and Chris Clements, Merriam, KS; Wilson Hack and Rylee Fuerst, Seattle, WA; Weston Hack, Wichita, KS, Hudson Hack, Lawrence, KS;  Bailey Hack, Charlotte, NC and Reagan Hack, Charlotte, NC: great grandchildren: Hank, Josie, and Teddy Danielson, Shawnee, KS;  Salome Miller, Parkville, MO; Ozias Miller, Taos, NM; Grant and Louie Hack, Austin, TX.

I served on our school board for six years with Julie. What a wonderful person she was. Kind, bright and so willing to consider all avenues to arrive at the best solution. Julie was a pleasure to be around. My sympathies to the wonderful Hack family.
