Joyce Carmona Obituary

Joyce "Joy" Carmona, 77, of Lawrence, KS, passed away on May 12, 2024 at Bridge Haven Memory Care in Lawrence, KS. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, vigil service to follow. Mausoleum service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Topeka, KS.

Joy was born on April 1, 1947, in Meriden, MS, to Jack Flanders and Verna Jones. She was the second oldest of ten siblings.

She married the love of her life, Manuel "Sonny" Carmona Jr., on June 23, 1986 in LaPlata, MD and he survives at their home with their favorite child, Sammy the dog, in Lawrence, KS.

Survivors include her husband, Manuel "Sonny" Carmona Jr., children, Michael (Jen) Upchurch of Indian Head, MD, Manuel Carmona III of Lawrence, KS, Deena (John Weber) Carmona of Topeka, KS, grandchildren, Marly (Konner) Kelley, Reese Carmona, James Upchurch, Gavin Neill, Drew Upchurch, and one great-grandchild, Kolt Kelley. As well as many family and friends who loved her unconditionally.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Bridge Haven Memory Care for their exceptional care and support. Their dedication not only to Joy, but also to us during this challenging period has meant the world to us. We would also like to thank Ascend Hospice for their excellent care until the end. Their support brought comfort to our family during a difficult time, and we are truly grateful for their kindness and compassion.
