Joe was one of the most intense individual I have known. As a fellow architect I saw him demonstrate a passion and a seriousness for all he did. He also seemed to always have a good joke to share with his friends! My condolences to his family.

Life is a journey and although the end of that journey is usually very sad, if you are fortunate enough to have shared part of that journey with someone, that is where the joy of life happens.
Joe and I shared our journey through KU: he was my roommate, fraternity brother, pledge father, and groomsman in my wedding. We both started out as teenagers fresh out of high school and after a few years at KU we left as Commissioned Officers in the military and started another journey with a family.
I will always be glad that I was fortunate enough to share that journey with Joe.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

We have lost a true gentleman, an intelligent man, with a strong sense of duty, of honor, of service. His service to Scouting will be long remembered.

Joe was a huge asset for our community. His compassion and and heartfelt love influenced a generation of scouts and friends. We miss him. His twinkling eyes and quick wit made Joe a consensus builder.

What an amazing life he led. I am a stranger who read Mr. King's obituary simply because his middle name is shared by a family member of mine and I rarely see the name elsewhere. Mr. King's life is an inspiration. Few of us will achieve even a fraction as much. He must have been an amazing person. I hope this will comfort his family members.
