Didn't know him personally but if he was anything like his Mother, he was a wonderful human being

Joe was my very good and close friend. We first met in high school in the fall of 1975 and quickly became friends through a shared interest in history, historical simulation games, debate, forensics, film and Royals Baseball (The $1.50 cheap seats in far right field!).
My fondest memories are our (infamous) one act of The Producers. Sharing the stage together in the SM West Little Theater in the play, The Veldt. Taking the film appreciation class where we screened and critiqued such classics as On the Waterfront, Singing in the Rain, In Cold Blood and many more. In another film class we took together he starred in my project, Monolith. We took an archeology class together during our junior year and spent the summer of 1976 in Nauvoo, IL digging out the summer kitchen of Joseph Smith. To his final days he still had a taste for Nauvoo wine! And, of course, the many games we attended in Royals Stadium.
After I moved to Florida He came to visit me in Tallahassee during 1981. That visit turned into road trips to Cape Canaveral, FL, Disney World, FL and New Orleans, LA where we shared many adventures together.
Shortly after he joined the Army, I followed by joining in 1983. Fortunately we were assigned to nearby bases in Germany on our first assignments leading to more meetings.
We stayed in touch all the remaining years through letters, Emails, texts and phone calls and even managed many more short visits together.
Joe is my friend. I will miss his humor. I will miss our talks. I will our debates. I will miss our adventures. I will truly miss my friend!

I first meant Joe at Fort Hood Texas in 1986 when we where both stationed there in the Army. Joe and I had a lot of good times in the service, and managed to stay in touch over the years that passed. We recently went to Las Vegas in March to gamble and watch the NCAA basketball tournament. I was glad we got to spend that time together. I will miss Joe greatly, he was a great friend and a great military Brother.

It was Great! seeing Joe again when he came to Portland. I'm glad we had that one last opportunity to rekindle our friendship.

Joe Adler was one of my longest and best friends I miss him dearly, I had known him since 1974 and was his main debate partner for almost 5 years through high school and college at JCCC. We won 3rd place at the National Phi Rho PI Junior College debate tournament in Sacramento 1978, first place at Wichita Falls TX went to war together figuratively. We were and roommates r at KU. and members of the "gods of football" we continued to share our friendship through trips even though we were not living near each other the past 34 yrs. He had an incredible sense of history, and was a fan of KU Basketball, Chiefs , and Royals. We attended many concerts from KC to Los Angeles and between, watched so many movies I can't remember them all, and were amused by the British comedic troupe known only as Monty Python's Flying Circus.

When my brother passed away a few years ago Joe wrote in his Eulogy "For as long as I knew Fred our phone conversations always began the same way. He would ask "What do ya know Joe?" And I would respond, "Just got back from a vaudeville show." He would say, "You know the code word, I'm talking to the real Adler." I always got a kick out of that."

Joe is on to the next vaudeville show,,and now for something completely different....

I am so sorry you and your son had to go through this terrible journey, now it is at a end. He is smiling down on you and thanking you for taking care of him. I hope I am never in your shoes, you are much stronger than I would be. I am thinking of you and hoping you find peace
