John Green Obituary

John David Green, 54, passed away on August 12, 2016, at his home in Beverly Hills California, after a brief illness. David, as he was known to his family, was born on February 6, 1962 to Sara Catherine Cleaver (Robertson) and Larry L. Robertson in Ishpeming, Michigan. Sara and Larry later divorced and Sara remarried Winford Ira Green and settled in Topeka, Kansas. David attended Randolph Grade School, Boswell Jr. High and Topeka High School and spent most of his childhood at Lake Wabaunsee with his friends, minibike, dog Gus and a cat Natasha. During his senior year in high school he joined the US Marine Corp and was stationed in California and Japan. Not long after his discharge, he started taking flying lessons at the Lawrence, KS, municipal airport where he gained hours towards various ratings. He then attended Southeast Missouri State University and earned his associate's degree in aviation aeronautics. This allowed David to pursue his lifelong dream of flying jets. David was employed by many carriers over his long career including Kitty Hawk, Northwest, and Delta where he was made captain last year.

In 1991, David married Anne Elizabeth Brennan from Pasadena California. In '94, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Catherine Anne, into the world in Raleigh, North Carolina. David and Anne later divorced. His second daughter, Madison Green, was born in 2007 and lives with her family in Michigan.

David loved flying airplanes, nice cars, good conversation and a well-made suit. His daughters were the apples of his eye and he loved them with all his heart. He will be remembered for his good heart – he would do anything for his friends.

John David is survived by his daughters Catherine and Madison, his mother, Sara Cleaver Green, Creve Coeur, Missouri, his sister, Laura Ann Green, Baldwin City, Kansas, his brother, Rob Robertson (Jennifer) and his nephew Joseph, New York, NY, several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his fathers, Larry L. Robertson and Winford Ira Green, and his step-mother, June P. Robertson.

Services will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].

A bigger heart didn't exist; John was a good friend, a good dad, a good pilot and a heck of a pool player. He had a brilliant mind, was well read, clever with a quick wit and incredible sense of humor. He was loyal and a man of his word. A great traveling companion; we laughed our way across the country carrying our combined belongings from New York to Detroit to Seattle. There was much more to do and more adventures to share. He will be terribly missed.

My Love and Passion for you as a friend and your devotion first and foremost for your two beautiful daughters, Catherine and Maddie is a love that will continue through eternal life where you rest now in God's warm embrace. May your light of love through God shine brightly upon each of your daughters and everyone you touched through your tender love, kind heart, generosity, compassion and tenderness with whom you shared life here on earth as we know it.

Johnny in the time that I was blessed and fortunate to spend with you, you brought great love and joy into my life that I will forever cherish. Your passing has left me in great pain, but also know that as I reflect on the times and look back on all the great memories we shared together, you will forever remain MY LOVE. I Miss you.

I was saddened to hear of John's passing. He was one of the first captains I flew with shortly after getting hired at Delta, when I was based out of NYC . I also had the pleasure to fly with him a few times out of LAX and I always enjoyed flying with him. We had great conversations and I particularly remember how he never failed to speak of the love he had for his daughters. Godspeed.
