John was quite the character! Full of life and music! He would always break out in song, which we loved. He will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. One day many will have the opportunity to live again. May the hope of everlasting life sustain and comfort you during this difficult time. (John 17:3)

Thinking of my uncle with great fondness. We had dinner together at Sambo's in Lawrence the night that Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. He was the black sheep, probably why we got along so well. Even though he had only infrequent visits from us, the California branch of the family, whenever we visited Lawrence when my brother and sister and I were young, he always had time for us. He knew how to think like we did, and we always had fun in his company. To some he was exasperating, but to us he was musical, magical, and the Pied Piper. I wish I had been able to spend more time with him. The photo is Co (we never called him 'John') with Bob Nelson, 'The Old Jayhawk' on his right. I'm guessing this was taken in the mid or late 1950's.

I was saddened to hear John's passing. As a lifelong friend of my Father, John had been a constant part of our Family's lives and shared in our holiday's and special events for most of 40 years.
His love of music was like no one I've known. John was an accomplished musician, playing many instruments with great proficiency. ...from his jazz club in Hoboken, NJ to his music store "The Sound" in Lawrence to his many years playing with the Junkyard Jazz Band, he touched many lives with his music and his dry humor.
We will continue to cherish our many memories with "Uncle" John from over the years; play-on, my old friend, play-on.

I have fond memories of visiting with John. As it turned out, he lived two places where my mother lived, so he and I had a number of conversations. We both are musicians and he would give me feedback on a performance. He was supportive and helpful in his comments. John loved to walk. He may have set a record for miles walked in Lawrence. It probably accounted for his robust health. I will miss John and I know many others will as well, especially his fellow band members. Farewell John. Go quickly to heaven and I hope to see you there again.

I have a lifetime of memories of "Uncle" John as he was a good friend of the family from the time I was born. He was ALWAYS up for a conversation. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
