Dear Arensberg's, my name is Scott Schaefers, son of Jerry and nephew of Earl. I am in KS on business today and went through Atchinson and it spurred a memory of Jack and I went online to find that he recently passed away. I remember what good friends they were with quail hunts down here and fishing trips and Boy's Week at our cabin in Minnesota. Even though I was a kid during those trips, I remember those visits and Jack fondly. I remember thinking how I hoped I would have the type of friendships they shared and take trips with my friends like they did. They all are up in the Happy Hunting Grounds now where the bird are plentiful, the dogs are good and the cocktails are cold. We send our thoughts and prayers are with you all, but know Jack had a life well lived.

Tom I am sorry for your loss of your beloved Dad. You have spoken of him often and I feel like through you I knew him a little bit. I sure did know his shoe store, and was disappointed when it closed. I know he was a big part of your life, and I know you will miss him dearly. I am thinking of you and your family.

Mary, Tim, Tom, Jeff, Julie, and Andy - I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember Jack as a fun loving neighbor who enjoyed block parties, fireworks, and picnics on West Eighth Street. As a long-time babysitter for the Arensberg children, I only fell asleep once - around 5am on a Sunday morning - and Jack loved to tease me about sleeping on the job. My prayers are with you all.

To the extended Arensberg family: The Hedges family extends our heartfelt condolences for the loss of Jack. We have so many fond memories of the fun, hilarious, and enjoyable times we have spent with your family and Jack. We will treasure those memories forever. Jack's visit with Chuck before he passed and that photo of them shaking hands one last time was very special to us. We hope they are greeting each other now discussing some golf rounds, card games, ski trips, story telling and more! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We appreciate all the special times spent together over the years.

I was saddened to read that my good friend, Jack, had passed away. I moved from Lawrence a little over 2 years ago. When I would visit Lawrence, I would go to the McDonald's coffee group, hoping to see Jack. We had a long standing friendly debate about politics. He was an avid Democrat and I was an avid Republican. We loved to needle each other. I used to tell him that he was the only Democrat that I ever liked and he would just laugh! Lawrence was a much better City because of Jack Arensberg! He will sorely be missed. I pray for comfort and blessings on his family.
Kudos to Herbie and Duck for bringing Jack to the coffee group after Jack could no longer drive.
