Joe was a childhood friend, neighbor and classmate. We spent many hours together as little trouble instigators in the neighborhood, good times. We lived a block apart, went to the same church and were in the same grade in school. In our youth Tarzan was a very popular TV show, and we would communicate via "Tarzan call" from house to house, letting each other know when we were home. As time moved on and I moved away from Kansas, we quickly grew apart. I did communicate with him a few years back, but our political differences seemed to strain what we once had. So, I was very shocked and sadden to find out through following the Osage City High School Class of 74, 50th reunion (on Facebook) that he had expired. Whoever, (I´m guessing his sister Joann) wrote his Obituary did a fabulous job of capturing the free-spirited Joe most everyone knew and loved. Goodbye old friend, I´ll see you on the other side. So very sorry to hear about Joe's passing. We loved spending time with him at the ball fields, when the boys were playing ball. He was truly a one of the kind. His obituary was truly spot on he will be truly missed. Love to Deb, Ben, and Shelly from the Cross family.

So, so sorry to hear about Joe. He was such a one-of-a-kind person. I loved that he didn´t care about what went on in the neighborhood. He just wanted people to do their own thing. (And not be bothered) I so admired that.
Debra, I will be thinking of you and your family. I know Ben and his children will miss him. Blessings to you and all who loved Joe.

Joe was a very interesting and helpful neighbor. He and my husband Ken who was also a philosopher would stand out on the driveway or on the sidewalk and talk for long period of time. I would wonder what are those guys talking about and can we get back to the Yard Work? It was always nice to see them doing that and I'm not sure I wanted to know what they were talking about! Fond memories. Condolences to Debra and the family. Kay Metzger

Joe was called the road manager for the Montfort Lane Band. He watched the door and our money when we were playing for the door. He was a joy to be around and an all around good guy. He could get a good nights sleep stretched out on top of his Harley Fat Boy. RIP Joe!!
