Jo Ann Wolch Krekel

Jo Ann Wolch Krekel, 83, of Warrensburg, Mo., passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at her home.

Jo Ann was born on October 17, 1931 in Kansas City, Mo. to Dorothy and Louis F. Wolch.

She attended K-12 in the KCMO Public School system, graduating from Westport High School in 1948. Jo Ann, then attended and graduated from KC Junior College. Jo Ann obtained her higher education degrees from Baker University, B.A. in Political Science/History, 1952; then her M.A. and Specialist degrees in Mass Communications from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Mo. in 1970-1971.

Jo Ann was employed by the Metropolitan Community College of KCMO and taught on the Penn Valley campus, from 1971-1994. Her areas were the Media Center, the Academic Computer Lab and Mass Communication classes.

On March 15, 1974 she married Edward F. Krekel. After retirement, they moved from Kansas City, Mo. to Baldwin City, Kan. where they had both previously graduated from Baker University. She was active in the Missouri Association of Education & Communications Technology, Missouri Folklore Society, Rockhill Tennis Club and the Kansas City Area Archivists. They both enjoyed traveling, especially in Colorado and New Mexico. In 2008, Jo Ann moved to Warrensburg, Mo. to be near her children.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; her sister, Dorothy Roland Bondurant; her grandson, Grant Parker Good; and great granddaughter, Addison Grace Eaton.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughters and spouses, Susan (Doug) Thornton and Kelley (Joe) Good of Warrensburg, Mo.; her son, Parker (Stella) McNeel of Warrensburg, Mo.; her stepson, Eric (Peggy) Krekel of Ashland, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Cremation will be followed by a private Celebration of Life with the family Monday, August 31, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. Please contact a family member for location.
