I was sorry to learn of the passing of Sgt. Major Pacheco. He recruited me into the Marine Corps in 1970. I wanted to be like him and still do. I would have followed him anywhere. I remember him telling me, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going."
God's peace and blessings to his family.

Through the long hot summer of' '62, your cadence was our music-your spirit was our inspiration - your iron will-our salvation and 'Never Quit' was our mantra. You knew what lay ahead for us and melted us down, added your determination, guts and sense of humor to shape us into poor imitations of your warrior self.
My heartfelt thanks for teaching me to survive-and my heart aches for your family.
Our earthly home has lost a true hero, husband and father, but Heaven has gained a real Marine!
