We shared the class of Salem Il. High school 1956 and the baseball team of 1955 and 1956. Jerry was a good friend and the best high school baseball pitcher that Salem ever had. I got to relief pitch a couple of times but wasn't in the same class of Jerry. Jerry and Avanell came to my house at the time of for our 40th. class reunion

Mercer family,
I had the pleasure of knowing Jerry when he was going to Washburn in the early 60's. I was in a couple of classes with him and went to his home on campus once or twice. We talked a lot of baseball and I had no idea of all of his accomplishments in baseball. He was destined for greater heights in baseball were it not for his injury. Recently his face flashed in front of me and I was able to think back to our conversations at Washburn. He was one of the most humble guys I ever met . His many lifetime accomplishments for others was how I knew his life would be. Mrs. Mercer please drop me an email at [email protected] and include your phone number so I can share my memories of Jerry with you. God bless your family
Sincerely, Larry Habluetzel
