Jeffrey Staus Obituary

Jeffrey D. Staus, 53, of Sparta, TN, passed away May 15, 2018, surrounded by his children and loved ones at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. He is survived by his mother Dot Kirby and step-father Dan of Sparta, TN, father Ed Staus and step-mother Carole of Lawrence, KS, brother Alan Staus of Ozawkie, KS, brother Gary Staus of Baldwin, KS, son Colton Staus of Butte, MT, daughter Courtney Staus of McLouth, KS, daughter Nicole Risi and son-in-law Nick of Moore, OK, grandchildren Vonn and Nikaia Risi, his dog Hank, and many other beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Born May 5, 1965, in Lawrence, Jeff was naturally a lifelong Jayhawk fan. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1983 and began his career with Hallmark shortly afterward. Throughout his tenure, Jeff earned many advanced certificates from Kaw Area Technical School such as industrial maintenance, electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, broiler, and plant maintenance to name a few. During his time in Tennessee, Jeff worked for many years at Oreck Manufacturing Co. and for the last 3 years, he was self-employed. He was a hard worker, who in his personal life, loved and played equally as hard.

Jeff was an avid outdoorsman, turkey hunter, handyman, and exceptional cook. His good humor and jest made life fun for all who knew him. A natural athlete, Jeff enjoyed playing softball, horseshoes, and water-skiing. Most of all he revered making meaningful relationships with co-workers, friends, and family.

I went to school with Jeff at South Jr.High School and Lawrence High School. Back in the early 80s we also worked together at Western Sizzlin Steakhouse here in Lawrence Kansas. I haven't seen him for years, but I still have the best memories of laughing together at work. He had such a great sense of humor. So sad to hear of his early passing. My prayers go out to your family and his children and grandchildren
