Jane Warren Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Warren, 73, of Lawrence, died on May 19 at home, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on May 23, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence. The family will greet friends from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Masks are encouraged.

A proud native of Fargo, North Dakota, Jane was born to Frederick and Lois Quam on October 16, 1948, just a few minutes before her twin sister and life-long best friend, Jean. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in psychology in 1970 before going on to the University of Kansas to earn two master's degrees and her PhD in clinical psychology. It was there she met her husband, Dan. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1975 and had little idea at the time that they would eventually return to Lawrence decades later.

Jane's greatest joy was being mom to her two daughters, and she was especially proud to gain the title of grandma last year. Aside from sharing endless stories about her brilliant and talented children and their spouses, Jane enjoyed traveling, cheering on her beloved Jayhawks, completing her daily crossword puzzle, and volunteering at church. Jane never met a stranger. Because of her warm, outgoing personality, she was loved by many. She had a variety of talents and interests-from needlepoint to knitting prayer shawls to researching stock tips and investment strategies to her weekly yoga class. She was also an active member of University Women's Club, Altrusa, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jane was a woman of deep faith, which sustained her throughout her life. It was her faith that inspired a lifelong commitment to care for others, in both her professional and personal life. As a clinical psychologist she successfully developed a private practice in two different cities and provided mental health services to children and adults. As early as high school, Jane volunteered with mentally ill adults in residential care. Most recently, she taught psychology courses online and in person at Bellevue University.

Last October, Jane was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an incurable brain cancer. Jane underwent surgery and started chemo therapy and radiation. She also tried Optune, which was a relatively new treatment. As her health declined in recent weeks, she was grateful to be at home with the help of hospice care.

Jane will be deeply missed by her husband Dan Warren; children, Dr. Emily Warren (Andrew Vogel), Baltimore, Maryland, and Rev. Katy Warren (Allison Sanyi) and grandson, Micah Sanyi, Davenport, Iowa; sister, Dr. Jean Quam (Bonnie Dudovitz), Minneapolis, Minnesota; father, Frederick Quam, Fargo, North Dakota; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother.
