Jane Crosby Cooper

Jane Crosby Cooper, 79, died January 3, 2015, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born July 8, 1935, in Dodge City, the daughter of James Keith and Lida (Barnard) Crosby. Jane was a 1953 graduate of Hutchinson High School, a 1955 graduate of Hutchinson Community College and a 1957 graduate of The University of Kansas. While at KU, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Following college, Jane taught elementary education in the Hutchinson public schools. She married David H. Cooper on September 14, 1957, in Hutchinson. Dave died January 26, 1998.

Her survivors include: son, Andy and wife Ann Showalter Cooper of Overland Park; daughter, Stacie Cooper Williams and husband Sean of Lawrence; brother, James K. Crosby II (who she referred to as "the greatest brother in the world") and wife Carol; brother-in-law, Dick Cooper and wife Marcia; sister-in-law, Linda Zenor and husband Larry, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Crosby and Kelsey Cooper of Overland Park, Madi, Abby and Ellie Williams of Lawrence; nieces and nephews, Craig Cooper, Becky Sutton, Beth Boxwell, Jim Crosby, Sue Boyd and John Crosby. Jane was preceded in death by: her husband, her parents and a nephew, Curt Cooper.

A memorial service for Jane will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, Sherman & Poplar, with Rev. Mark H. Miller, D. Min., officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Hutchinson Town Club. A private family graveside service will be held. Friends may sign the register book from 9am to 9pm, Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will be closed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Hutchinson Community Foundation , Hospice of Reno County or donor's choice, all c/o Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, 67501.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful health care professionals that cared for Jane throughout her remarkable fight.
