James Henry Obituary

James R. Henry

James R. (J.R.) Henry, 70, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at his home in Lawrence, KS.

J.R. was born October 16, 1943, in Miltonvale, KS, the son of Marshall and Pearl (Angelo) Henry. After graduating from Miltonvale High School in 1961, he enrolled at the University of Kansas and later earned his degree from the Brown Mackie School of Business. In 1967 he married Diane Nicholson, and in 1968 they moved to Fort Morgan, CO, where he served as Vice President of the Morgan Industrial Bank for a number of years. In Fort Morgan he and Diane raised their two children, Linda and Steven. J.R. served on the Board of the Fort Morgan Country Club and was a longstanding member of the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge.

In 1985 J.R. moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he worked for the Western States Tire Company. He moved to Kansas in 1995 and worked for AT&T in the Customer Service Department until retirement. J.R. was working part time for the City of Lawrence in the Public Transit System at the time of his death.

J.R. is survived by his daughter Linda Reding and her family (Tate Larson and her sons Jake and Chase Reding) of Fort Morgan; and his son Steven Henry and his family (wife Cari and their children Pierce, Rhett, and Evyn) of Austin, TX. Also surviving him are his sister Barb and her husband Gail Copple of Lawrence; his brother Art Henry of Highland Park, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

J.R. was an avid fan of all things KU, especially KU Basketball. He also loved visiting his family and was blessed with the gathering of all his children, grandchildren, sister, and brother-in-law in honor of his 70th birthday, just a few weeks before his passing.

The family suggests that memorials be made in the care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, for later distribution by the family as an endowment to the University of Kansas.

Sorry about this sad news, I did not know "J.R" but if he was anything like his sis Barb, he was one swell fellow.
