James Finley Obituary
James Hugh Finley, "Jim", 92, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Lansing, KS. Funeral Mass Services will be at 10 AM, Friday, August 29, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Johnson Drive and Monticello Road in Shawnee, KS with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the visitation from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday evening, August 28, at the church, where the Rosary Service will be at 8 PM. The family suggests Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church athletic fund. Jim was born on May 13, 1922 in Blackwater, MO and was a longtime area resident. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving in North Africa. He worked for T.W.A. for 34 years as a machinist retiring in 1984. He served as the athletic director for the Area Catholic Schools C.Y.O. for many years and also served as the recreation director in Bonner Springs for many years. He was a member of the Bonner Springs School Board for 20 years and he was the sportswriter for the Chieftain Newspaper in Bonner Springs for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Dolores M. Finley in 2011 and is survived by five children Carol Bristow, Jim "Bub" Finley, Linda Mulcahy, Mark Finley and Michael Finley. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

I moved to Bonner Springs twenty-two years ago from Noel, Mo.. Prior to moving I called the Recreation Department in Bonner Springs and spoke to Mr. Finley. He assured me that Bonner had a great sports program and my family would love Bonner as much as he did. He was right! What a great man. Tammy Meisenheimer and family

Jim, you were one of the best friends I ever had. You were my mentor at TWA, you taught me everything I knew. We were friends for many years. I talked to you every day on the telephone, some days more than once. You always called me "ole buddy" that I'll never forget. The memories will last forever. I'll see you again one of these days. It was my great honor to know Jim. He was an extremely able person who gave so much to his Church and this community. He always had the best interests of the young at heart in everything he did. Two prime examples are his 20 years on the School Board of USD 204,and sport's column that he wrote for the Chieftain for fifty years. He will be missed by all that knew him. My condolences go out to his family.
