James Carruth Obituary

James "Jim" Allan Carruth of Lawrence, Kansas was born in Topeka, KS August 24, 1944 to Arthur and Vera Carruth III. He passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022 at the age of 77.

He enjoyed working in his yard and garden and sitting outside in his chair, waving at passing neighbors. He took frequent trips to Las Vegas with friends and family and spent many summers driving around in his 1966 Corvette, entering it in car shows and usually taking one of the top 3 awards with his beautiful car.

He was an entrepreneur, owning the Depot Square in Topeka for several years before moving to Lawrence and buying the Harbour Lights tavern on Massachusetts Street. Many will remember him sitting behind the bar at the Harbour, always ready to tell a joke or play a game of pool. Later, he decided to be semi-retired and started his own lawn care business. Taking care of people's lawns around his neighborhood, though making sure that his lawn always looked just a bit better.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy, ex-wife Joyce and is survived by his son Bill and stepdaughter Kimi.

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at a later date. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the donor's choice of Non-Profit Organization.

Enjoyed talking with Jim and often sharing a beer with him. We didn´t solve any world problems but had fun discussing them.

I really enjoyed your friendship and humor at the Harbor Lights, Jim. I am terribly sorry I hadn't seen you for a couple of years; we could have talked about our current lives and rehashed memories. Rest in Peace, Jim.
