J.C. Brown Obituary

J.C. Brown, age 90, of Baldwin City, Kansas passed away May 24, 2018 at his home. He was born December 17, 1927 in Malvern, Arkansas, the son of Dee Lester Brown and Lydia May (Crawley) Brown.

On November 29, 1950 J.C. was united in marriage to Mary Lou Stuke in Wetmore, KS. They shared 63 years of marriage until her death, October 19, 2014.

In 1955 J.C. and Mary Lou moved to their farm in Baldwin City where they have lived since. J.C. was a lifelong farmer as well as a Union Millwright for Union #1529.

J.C. was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City, a charter member of the Annunciation Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Palmyra Fire Department, and a board member of Rural Water District #4.

He served his country during World War II and the Korean War in the United Sates Air Force. During his service to his country he attained the rank of Sergeant and achieved the World War II Victory Medal.

J.C. was a wonderful family man. He was the consummate provider. His children and grandchildren were always well aware of his love and work he did to help to care for them.

J.C. is survived by a daughter, Laura Torneden of Overbrook, KS; six sons, Danny Brown of Baldwin City, KS, Joseph Brown of Silsbee, Texas, David Brown of Baldwin City, KS, Mark Brown of Baldwin City, KS, Rob Brown of Overbrook, KS, and Anthony Brown of Eudora, KS; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jesses Brown of Baldwin City, KS; and a sister, Dora Wall of Kansas City, KS.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; three brothers, Wyatt Brown, Morris Brown, Claude Brown; and a sister, Flora Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City, KS. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Baldwin City, KS. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City.
