Ilene Shoemaker Obituary

Ilene K. (Rains) Shoemaker, 73, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away May 27, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital following heart surgery.

Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday June 1, 2021 at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service 10-11 am. Burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Ilene was born June 19, 1947 in Beatrice, Nebraska, the daughter of Elmer and Thelma Hemminger Rains. Her family also included her older brother Dean Rains. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1964 and married the love of her life, Leo Shoemaker, soon after. They celebrated 56 years of marriage November 18, 2020. When her kids were young, she was a stay-at-home mom who sold Avon and sewed clothing for her family and others. Her work career also included Korb Electric in Tonganoxie and Servi-Tronics and Maupintour Travel in Lawrence, from where she retired. She and Leo enjoyed traveling and went on many trips and cruises together with friends. Ilene loved the color blue, her beloved dogs, Diet Dr. Pepper, garage sales and a good online auction (with Leo picking up the goods she won the bid on!) She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and the "Lunch Bunch".

Ilene is survived by her husband Leo of the home; their children, Debbie and Joe Krivjansky, Danny and Mona Shoemaker, Doug and Heather Shoemaker, all of Tonganoxie. She also had six grandchildren, Rachel Krivjansky Holsey (RK), Elizabeth Krivjansky, Nicole Shoemaker, Harlan Shoemaker, Hailey Shoemaker (Chase), Gunnar Shoemaker, Justin Davidson, Morgan Smith and Todd Davidson (Maura); and three great-grandsons, Kade, Parker, and Karson. She also is survived by her dogs Frankie, Shorty and Boomer.

Memorial donations in memory of Ilene can be made to the St. Luke's Cardiovascular Unit and may be sent to the Quisenberry Funeral Home 604 E 4th Street, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.
