Ian Rowell Obituary

Ian James Rowell, 65, of Lawrence, died Monday, August 16, 2021 at his home. He was born April 5, 1956 at Worksop Derby Shire, England, the son of Albert James and Margery Brown Rowell. Ian's family emigrated to the United States in 1966 and became American Citizens. He was a 1974 graduate of Lawrence High School and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1979, earning a BA degree in Geography. He worked as an Information Specialist in the Geology Department of the University of Kansas 40 years, retiring in April, 2021. He was a certified Master Diver with the Scuba Shack in Lawrence and was formerly an EMT and volunteer for the Wakarusa Township Fire Dept.

He married Rhonda S. Duncan-Shreve on July 20, 2006 at Lawrence, she survives at the home. He is also survived by his parents Albert James and Margery Rowell, Lawrence, a step-son, Dustin (Jamie Stokes) Shreve, Lawrence, one sister, Alison (Jim) Nye, Lawrence, one brother, Gareth (Milissa) Rowell, Clever, MO, a sister-in-law, Marie Rowell, Eldorado, KS, one step-grandson, Nick Sanders, one step-granddaughter, Kayla Ugolini and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Colin Rowell and two nieces, Sally Rowell and Mhari Rowell.
