It was with great sadness that I learned of Herb's passing. I have known Herb for many years, mostly in some trying circumstances in keeping with the nature of my job.
Herb and Alma were always friendly, gracious and considerate, and Herb was always proud of his family foremost.
I will greatly miss our semi-annual visits.

Herb and I began our relationship as enemies during WW!! but quickly turned to friendship through his son, Ron,when Ron was purchasing a home that he wanted his Father to inspect before closing the deal. From then on Herb shared a close friendly relationship with me and we spent much time together when he was in Abilene, Ks. Later we met at their home in Canada. As his health began to fail we could not visit in person but continued to speak on the phone. I will miss him very much--a good friend that he was.

Dear Alma and family, My heart goes out to you. I will always remember Herb as a good dad stopping into work to get Deb out of the office. He was one of the few people that seemed to be able to pull her away from her desk.

I would love to say I had the pleasure of knowing Herb for longer. I met him in the last few months of his life. In that time we became good friends while having dinner at the hospital. I looked forward to going in to see him to hear stories of his life mostly in war time and in love when he met Alma. I feel so blessed to have had this time with him to hear his stories. I will miss our visits and know he's in peaceful place with no pain or struggle. Thank you Ron and Deb for allowing me to help your Dad. He will be missed.
My condolences to your entire family

Dear Alma, Deb and George,
I am saddened by your loss and will always miss Herb's zest for life and interest in all things. Some of my most favourite times on the Island were dinners with Deb & George and Alma &Herb. We talked of ALL things, we argued and laughed and groaned about what we said, no one held back and those events were truly a great meeting of minds of history, politics, art, literature, life and science. And wonderful food. Herb's stories of his life in WWII were spell binding. Alma's steadfast companionship was Herb's anchor. I hope we can attain their grace and serenity in our lives and future.
