Henry Murphy Obituary

Henry Franklin Murphy, 81, Lawrence, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. He was born April 22, 1941 in Lawrence, the son of Harry Leslie, Sr and Nina Ruth Anderson Murphy. He was a 1959 graduate of Lawrence High School and graduated with degrees in Education from Baker University and Emporia State University. He served in the Perry-Lecompton School District #343 as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent, retiring in 2001. He was a beloved mentor and coach to many individuals in the community. Henry was a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and K.U. Basketball. He had an illustrious Fast Pitch Softball career which culminated in him being inducted into the Kansas Amateur Softball Hall of Fame in 1991. He was also an avid fisherman and golfer.

He married Kathy Erickson in 2017 at Oskaloosa, She survives at the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Renee (Jon) Smith, Lecompton, Carrie Murphy, Lawrence, two step-sons, Mike Erickson, Grantville, Matt (Jackie) Erickson, Grantville, two brothers, Dean Murphy, Wichita, Dale Murphy, Lawrence, two sisters, Ruth Buller, Lawrence and Verna Stanwix, Lawrence, seven grandchildren, Randy Erickson, Ronna Erickson, Brett Erickson, Kayla Erickson, Jenna Erickson, Payton Smith and Amelia Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Les Murphy, a sister, Shirley Wagner, three brother-in-laws, Clyde Wagner, Wes Buller, Dick Stanwix, one sister-in-law, June Murphy and a nephew, Jeff Miller.

Private Family Services will at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Burial will be at Clinton Cemetery. A public Memorial Service Gathering will be at a later date. Memorials suggested to American Cancer Society in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS, 66066.
