Harold Dickey Obituary

Harold Preston Dickey passed away on July 15, 2022. He was born in Caddo, Oklahoma on February 19, 1928. He was a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M College (renamed to Oklahoma State University) in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He was in the Army during World War II as a member of an experimental microwave radio team in Virginia. For thirty years he worked as a soil scientist for the US Geological Survey in Lawrence, Kansas. He lived most of his life in Baldwin City, Kansas.

He was married to Roberta Morris Dickey from 1966 until her passing in 2001.

They shared Susan D. Sweat (Dickey), Kathy McCrary (Reed) and Phillip Reed.

He had five grandchildren: Andrew Mitchell, Lance Jeffers, Danielle Reed Weaver, Mackenzie Sweat and Thomas Sweat and 5 great grandchildren.

Most of those who knew him called him grandpa. He was quiet as a younger man, more chatty as he got older. One of his many attributes was that he could fix almost anything. His patience for tinkering until he figured it out was amazing. He was proficient at plumbing, electrical and automotive. He collected coins, mainly quarters and half dollars. He loved sports but especially golf and played as often as he could well in to his 80's. He had a large garden and would share with his friends and neighbors tomatoes, green beans, blackberries and strawberries.

You would frequently find him with a ball cap on his head.

Hats off to you grandpa - we miss you and will forever love you.

Gramps was a wonderful guy. We came to know him later is his life, but always enjoyed our conversations. We will miss his wry wit and our sports discussions. May he rest in God´s hands.
